ABOUT PERU

Peru, the heartland of the Incas, remains dotted with remnants of this once-mighty civilization, with Machu Picchu standing as the most iconic testament to their architectural genius. While this mountaintop citadel alone is reason enough for a first visit, the Incas were just one chapter in Peru’s rich history, with many other ancient cultures leaving their mark on the land.

Best time to travel

  • The ideal time to visit Peru is during the dry season, which spans from May to October. During these months, you can expect sunny days, clear blue skies over the Andes, and crisp, cool nights. This period is perfect for trekking and outdoor activities, but because it’s the peak tourist season, it’s important to book your trip well in advance.
  • From November to April, visitors will encounter more rain, with the heaviest rainfall occurring in January and February. However, traveling during this time has its own perks: fewer crowds, lush green landscapes, and often more affordable rates for flights and accommodations.
  • In the Amazon, rainfall is also more frequent from November to March, but this shouldn’t discourage you from exploring the region. The rainforest remains teeming with life, and there are always breaks in the rain to enjoy the rich flora and fauna.
