Best time to travel

  • The best time to visit Iceland depends on the activities you want to experience, as some are seasonal. For instance, exploring inland areas by 4x4 is only possible from July, after the snow in the highlands has melted. If you’re hoping to see the northern lights, plan your visit between November and February when the nights are longest.
  • Iceland is a fantastic destination year-round, benefiting from a temperate maritime climate.  Summers  are brief and cool, with temperatures ranging from 9°C to 13°C, while winters are long but relatively mild, with highs around 3°C and lows around -2°C.
  • Be prepared for unexpected rain throughout the year, which can bring chilly, wet, and windy conditions. Winter blizzards may disrupt travel plans, and late snow melts in the highlands could impact summer travel. But as Icelanders often say, if you don’t like the weather, just wait a moment.
